Quotations You Can Use: Horoscopes

Simple Simon On Horoscopes, And A Great Quotation From Shakespeare

Millions believe in horoscopes. Always have. Always will.

The horoscope section of many publications is its most frequently read section. Whenever editors think about dropping horoscopes, there generally is a loud outcry from readers.

Simple Simon admits that he sometimes reads them, too.  Simple Simon is a Leo, and behaves like Leos are supposed to behave. He loves attention, roars when he’s not paid attention to or crossed, is generous, loyal, and protective.

But there is great danger in believing that we are controlled by the stars, that we have nothing to do with our destiny. Throughout history, countless individuals, famous and obscure, have looked for signs and omens to guide them in their decisions. And when they did act in accord with their omens and signs, found disaster, not success.

Shakespeare confronted this belief in his plays, most famously in “Julius Caesar.”

Here is a great quote from Shakespeare’s  on omens, the stars, and destiny:
“Men at some time are masters of their fates; the fault…is not in our stars, but in ourselves…”

This is a quote that you can use in speeches and conversation whenever you want to make the point that uncritical belief in the rule of the stars can lead to crippling inaction or disaster.
